We’ve recently made updates to our HR Policies and Procedures Manuals, including the Employee Induction Kit, NDIS Self Managers Direct Employment, and NDIS Support Worker Agency manuals.
These updates reflect changes to the Parental Leave Scheme, recent court decisions relating to rostering employees on public holidays and Christmas Closedowns. We also added new policies relating to rest and meal breaks and breaks between shifts.

- Chapter 2 – Hours of Work and Rosters – Breaks Between Shifts. Added a new section referring employees to their Industrial Award or Agreement.
HR Policies – Updated Sections
- Chapter 2 – Leave – Public Holidays. Provisions amended as a result of an appeal before the Full Court of the Federal Court regarding automatically rostering employees to work on a public holiday. You now have to give employees the opportunity to refuse working on a public holiday, and to give their reasons. Only after discussion or negotiation can an employer require the employee to work if the request was reasonable and the employee’s refusal was unreasonable.
- Chapter 2 – Leave – Christmas Closedowns. Provisions amended as a result of a ruling of the Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission. The main change to our existing policy is the requirement that all employees be notified in writing at least 28 days before the closedown, and the addition of provisions relating to options if an employee does not have sufficient accrued leave to cover the closedown.
- Chapter 2 – Parental Leave. Totally rewritten to reflect the changes from the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Protecting Worker Entitlements) Bill.
